Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Alexander Karsner visited GE Energy in Newark, Delaware, to discuss the President's Solar America Initiative. Joined by executives from GE Energy and BP Solar, Karsner discussed the recent selection of 13 Technology Pathway Partnerships for up to $168 million in DOE funding over the next three years. Industry-led teams will contribute more than 50% of funding, enabling up to $357 million for the projects.
President Bush's Solar America Initiative (SAI) is a major part of the Advanced Energy Initiative, which challenges Americans to change the way we power our homes, offices, and vehicles. The SAI is focused on developing domestic manufacturing capacity for photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems and making PV-generated electricity cost-competitive by 2015.
