March 12, 2007
Alexander Karsner, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, visited United Solar Ovonic in Auburn Hills, Michigan on Thursday, March 8, to announce selection of 13 Solar America Initiative Technology Pathway Partnerships (TPPs) for negotiation for funding. As part of the cost-shared agreements, the industry-led teams will contribute more than 50% of the funding for these projects for a total value of up to $357 million over three years.
President Bush's Solar America Initiative (SAI) is a major part of the Advanced Energy Initiative, which challenges Americans to change the way we power our homes, offices, and vehicles. The SAI is focused on developing domestic manufacturing capacity for photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems and making PV-generated electricity cost-competitive by 2015.
