Assessment, Incentives Key to Government's Data Center Energy Goals

On March 5th, 2007, Computerworld wrote about a March 2nd roundtable in Austin convened to discuss energy efficiency within the information technology industry. Attendees from more than two dozen technology leaders were present, as well as representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, including Assistant Secretary of Energy Alexander Karsner. The event included discussion of Energy Savings Assessments (ESAs), which identify energy savings opportunities at the country's largest data centers, and DOE and industry goals for the industry, including the adoption of ENERGY STAR designation for servers and the creation of metrics for measuring data center efficiencies.
