In a first-of-its-kind meeting in California, Assistant Secretary Andy Karsner brought together several major technology companies to discuss industrial energy needs and the concern that higher energy costs could affect economic growth. Attendees at this meeting included AMD, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Cisco, Sun Microsystems, and Hewlett-Packard. This meeting was reported in the San Jose Mercury Times. From the article: "The U.S. Department of Energy, which measures power use in various industries, hopes to learn from the companies, and to design guidelines for building efficient facilities and technology, said Alexander Karsner, Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the department. He also is considering eventually auditing energy use in technology facilities, much like the department's audits of steel and paper plants."
