Obama Highlights National Clean Fleets Partnership
April 01, 2011
Today, President Obama highlighted the National Clean Fleets Partnership, part of his goal of reducing America’s imported oil by one-third by 2025. The Partnership leverages cleaner, alternative fuels and technologies that increase efficiency in the vehicles we drive. Five charter members – AT&T, FedEx, PepsiCo, UPS and Verizon – announced their near-term petroleum reduction strategies, which will account for the deployment of over 20,000 advanced technology vehicles and annual petroleum displacement in excess of 7 million gallons. These charter members represent 5 of the nation’s 10 largest national fleets, and collectively own and operate more than 275,000 vehicles. The U.S. Department of Energy is challenging other companies to join this important effort.
