Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Alexander Karsner along with Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Rural Development Tom Dorr opened the Advancing Renewable Energy Conference in St. Louis this morning. Hosted by Department of Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman and Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, the conference has attracted more than 1,500 industry, academic and government leaders. Welcoming attendees, Karsner highlighted how Americans can work together to develop new technologies and diversify energy sources: "Over the next couple of days, you will be hearing from and interacting with many of America's leaders in government, industry, academia; rural farmers and urban financiers; large corporations and small businesses; representing all regions of the country, red state/blue state and all shades between. All them sharing a sense of purpose for transforming and invigorating and diversifying the economy of the American heartland by commercializing sources of clean, green, affordable, and domestically abundant power generation and biofuels."
