In Memoriam

September 11, 2006

Photo of the American flag.

Monday marks the fifth anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, and we recall the tragedy and the courage displayed at the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field. President George W. Bush has proclaimed today Patriot Day, and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy joins him in honoring the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks. In the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the Department of Energy, we recognize the importance of the work we do. We believe our actions and accomplishments are vital to ending the dependence on oil from foreign sources and count it as a privilege to serve the American people.
