25 Awardees Honored at the Green Power Leadership Awards
October 27, 2008
Oct. 27, 2008—25 top utility companies, organizations, and individuals were honored with 2008 Green Power Leadership Awards during the 2008 National Renewable Energy Marketing Conference. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Center for Resource Solutions, honored these corporations, renewable energy suppliers, and industry pioneers for helping advance the nation's green power markets.
DOE recognized four top utility suppliers for their commitment to programs that allow consumers to purchase clean, green energy options, while implementing sustainable energy strategies that make good business sense. The Green Power Supplier Award winners include AmerenUE (St. Louis, MO); the City of Palo Alto (Palo Alto, CA); Sterling Planet (Norcross, GA); and 3Degrees (San Francisco, CA).
"DOE selected these organizations for their leadership in helping our nation grow its market for clean energy alternatives for businesses and consumers," said DOE Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Steve Chalk. "Currently, more than 850 utility suppliers, or about 25% nationally, offer green power programs to customers, and through the combination of utility green pricing and competitive retail markets, green power is available in almost every state."
AmerenUE won the Green Power Beacon Award as the "most successful" green power supplier in the marketplace. The City of Palo Alto won the Small Residential/Commercial Green Power Program or Supplier of the Year. Since launching the city's renewable energy program, Palo Alto has drawn a customer participation rate of 20.4%, the highest rate in the nation.
Sterling Planet and 3Degrees won the Large Commercial/Institutional Green Power Program for Supplier of the Year. Both companies have demonstrated leadership, growth, and success in supplying and marketing renewable energy to large commercial customers in voluntary green power markets.
