President Obama has submitted his Fiscal Year 2013 DOE budget to Congress that includes $2.27 billion for DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and support for solar energy, new approaches for energy storage, and research by the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E).
DOE has offered more than $12 million to fund solar energy innovation through its SunShot Incubator Program.
DOE has announced the three winners in its "America's Next Top Energy Innovator" challenge, honoring startups from Iowa, Maryland, and Oregon.
The global wind industry installed more than 41,000 megawatts and grew by 21% in 2011, according to the Global Wind Energy Council.
Thirty turbines that will generate electricity using the flow of the East River are being installed by a DOE-backed company along the strait connecting the Long Island Sound with the Atlantic Ocean in New York.
