Millions of green jobs could be created due to global efforts to tackle climate change, a new study shows. The global market for environmental products and services is projected to double from $1.37 trillion a year to $2.74 trillion by 2020, with half of that market in energy efficiency.
The clean energy sector is continuing to attract substantial amounts of investment capital, with the global "clean energy" market being expected to garner 11% of global venture capital investment in 2008, up from 1.6% in 2003.
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has selected Garden State Offshore Energy to develop a 345.6-megawatt wind project off the coast of New Jersey, which will consist of 96 wind turbines located 16-20 miles off the shore of Atlantic City.
The world's first commercial wave energy facility has begun operations in Portugal. Located 3 miles off the coast, the facility currently produces 2.25 megawatts of energy, with plans to expand the facility to a total capacity of 21 megawatts.
The Paris Motor Show, "Mondial de l'Automobile," features a number of hybrid and electric vehicles this year, including a Honda hybrid that is certain to arrive in the United States.
This week's Energy Connections examines loan guarantees for nuclear power plants. While electric utilities hope to build 21 new nuclear reactors at 14 nuclear power plants, but the plans may be stymied by a lack of available credit.
