DOE Awards 16 Contracts for Energy Savings at Federal Facilities
DOE will award 16 new Energy Savings Performance Contracts that could result in up to $80 billion in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation projects at federally-owned buildings and facilities.
DOE Helps Build Four New Energy-Saving Homes in New Orleans
Four newly constructed homes in New Orleans, Louisiana, are the first in that city to meet the strict energy performance goal of DOE's Builders Challenge, a voluntary initiative for energy-efficient homes. To help meet the goal, DOE provided technical assistance to the builder, Project Home Again.
Residential Water Heaters can now Carry the Energy Star Label
The New Year brings with it tidings of joy and energy-efficient hot water, as Energy Star-qualified residential water heaters are now available. High-efficiency versions of the conventional tank storage water heater can earn the label, as well as solar water heaters, heat pump water heaters, and whole-house tankless models.
DOE Offers up to $200 Million for Integrated Biorefineries
Over the next six fiscal years, DOE plans to invest up to $200 million to support the development of pilot- and demonstration-scale biorefineries that employ a combination of non-food feedstocks and conversion technologies to produce advanced biofuels. Applications are due by April 30.
BLM Finalizes Plans to Open 190 Million Acres to Geothermal Power
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has published a Record of Decision and amendments to 114 of its resource management plans to make it easier to offer federal lands for geothermal leasing. The Record of Decision applies to 190 million acres of public lands in the Western United States.
Federal Tax Credits Return for Efficiency Improvements to Homes
If a cool breeze hit you in the face as you tried to sleep off your New Year's Eve celebration, you'll be pleased to know that the New Year also revives the federal tax credits for energy efficiency improvements to homes. While sealing your home, you might also consider adding solar energy or wind power.
