Michigan Takes Narrow Lead in North American Solar Challenge
The last racing day for the North American Solar Challenge is Wednesday, July 27th, and it's sure to be an exciting finish, as the University of Michigan holds a narrow lead over the University of Minnesota and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Illinois Adopts Requirements for Efficiency, Renewable Energy
Illinois has become the 19th state to adopt a renewable energy requirement. Under the new standard, the state's utilities will have to draw on renewable energy for 8 percent of their electricity needs by 2012 and implement energy efficiency programs to cut their load growth in half by 2015.
Massachusetts Joins Effort to Build "Green" Affordable Housing
The new Massachusetts Green Communities Initiative, part of a national initiative, will help build 1,000 energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, affordable homes throughout the state. Part of the initiative will provide $8.5 million in grants to employ renewable energy in the homes.
