DOE and Alliance to Save Energy Launch New Energy-Saving Campaign
DOE and the Alliance to Save Energy have launched a new public education and awareness campaign called "Powerful $avings." The new partnership with the Alliance to Save Energy continues Energy Secretary Spencer Abrahams's "Smart Energy" campaign.
United States and United Kingdom Team Up on Clean Energy
The United States and the United Kingdom have signed on to their respective clean energy initiatives. The United States joined the U.K.-led Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership in April and the United Kingdom joined the U.S.- led Efficient Energy for Sustainable Development Partnership in May.
U.S. Wind Industry Expects Little Growth in 2004
The American Wind Energy Association says the lack of a production tax credit will limit new wind energy installations to less than 500 megawatts this year. However, plans are underway to build future wind energy projects in Arizona, California, Texas, New Mexico, and Nebraska.
Ten New Retail Biodiesel Pumps Open in Colorado
Blue Sun Biodiesel is supplying biodiesel fuel to 10 new retail pumps at service stations throughout Colorado. Denver is also testing biodiesel in 60 city vehicles. Under a USDA grant, Blue Sun is developing and producing low-cost mustard-based oilseed crops for use in producing biodiesel fuel.
USDA Launches Project to Make Energy from Cattle Byproducts
Now that certain cattle byproducts are restricted from use in the U.S. food supply, the USDA is aiming to convert them into energy, offering $50 million in loan guarantees for such projects. It's not so farfetched: A company in Missouri is already converting chicken byproducts into "crude oil."
Energy Efficiency Comes to Auto Factories and Commercial Buildings
All types of companies are investing in energy efficiency improvements to their buildings, and two recent examples are a Honda auto plant in Ohio and a distribution center in Georgia.

Electric Reliability Council: No Power Problems this Summer
The North American Electric Reliability Council says that generating resources will be adequate to meet projected power demand this summer, but warns that adverse conditions could cause problems in southwest Connecticut, New York City, Long Island, and maybe even California.
