Michael R. Muller is currently Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Center for Advanced Energy Systems at Rutgers University. The center focuses on research, teaching and outreach with special emphasis on industrial systems, environmental impacts, and advanced power generation.
Dr. Muller has been involved in industrial energy efficiency since establishing a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funded Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Center in 1986. Since 1992, he has served as field manager for DOE’s Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) program overseeing the technical work done at the participating universities. In addition, he has managed several sponsored programs involving technical assistance to industry. Through the years, he has participated in hundreds of industrial assessments and is often asked to speak on issues relating to industrial energy efficiency.
Dr. Muller has also served as a private consultant to corporations on a variety of matters, from engineering design to cybersecurity of large scale networks. Currently his efforts are focusing on publicizing the IAC database for use by utilities and other government agencies and broadening the implementation of combined heat and power systems (CHP) by small (<1MW) users.
Dr. Muller is a DOE Qualified Specialist in Process Heating, and a DOE Energy Expert.
