Bill Meffert, Senior Research Engineer, serves as manager of Georgia Tech’s Energy and Environmental Management Center and oversees the development, transfer, and adoption of energy and environmental best practices for industry and commercial businesses. This center consists of 10 faculty members and several students, and conducts over $1.5 million in research each year.
Mr. Meffert has almost 20 years of experience providing energy conservation, alternate fuel and energy efficiency assistance to industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities. He has completed more than 200 energy assessments at industrial facilities, 100 commercial energy assessments at public schools, hospitals, and institutional facilities including military bases, correctional buildings and universities. Along with other Georgia Tech faculty, Meffert developed the first energy management system standard, Management System for Energy 2000, for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI/MSE 2000). This management standard promotes continual improvement and sustained energy savings.
He has developed and presented courses on energy purchasing, energy project management, boiler efficiency improvement, waste heat recovery and other energy related topics. Mr. Meffert has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME) and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science from Covenant College. He is a Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP), Association of Energy Engineers), and a Qualified Specialist and Energy Expert in compressed air systems (U.S. Dept. of Energy).
Prior to joining Georgia Tech in 1987, Meffert held engineering positions with Combustion Engineering, Inc. and Thermax, Inc. While at Combustion Engineering, he analyzed the thermal stresses in Nuclear Steam Supply Systems. At Thermax, Inc., he assisted in the design of a natural gas-fired, adsorption heat pump for residential applications.
