This course covers the best known methods for reducing the energy-intensity of data centers by utilizing server-virtualization, optimizing the temperature within the data center, selecting energy-efficient cooling options, how to arrange server racks and aisles and many other efficiency opportunities. It emphasizes the need for server administrators to work with, rather than independent of facility operators.
Upon completing this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the major causes of energy inefficiency in a data center and describe the acceptable operating temperature for a data center and the process for achieving it;
- Describe the process of server virtualization and explain data center redundancy strategies and compare them to server redundancy strategies;
- Select an energy efficient power supply and explain the role of ENERGY STAR in data center efficiency; and
- Explain why it is important for IT professionals and facility personnel to work together to solve problems related to energy efficiency.
