ELODIE, an online collaborative software developed by CSTB, focuses on environmental of sustainable development. It quantifies environmental issues (primary energy, greenhouse gas emissions, waste disposal, water extraction) on the whole Life Cycle of buildings. ELODIE differs from other tools by the data quality and combined trainings; it now asserts itself as a strong benchmark tool for Life Cycle Assessment of buildings.
ELODIE allows you, by an overall approach, to study the environmental performances of your structures in a multi-criteria way. Then, you can streamline your decision making, eco-design and evaluate your building performances. We developed for you a modular tool that offers a way to take into account all the contributors to environmental impacts and to refine your studies. ELODIE is in constant evolution to match your needs. Newest developments have introduced features to go further in sustainable building designing by considering life cycle cost, acoustics and indoor air quality. Screen Shots

The tool has been developed and is daily improved according to French standards and ISO 14040-14044. Recent updates have led to methodology agreement with European standards (EN 15804, EN 15978 and EN 15942).

Recent developments are focused on spreading the tool to all building stakeholders from early stage eco-design to detailed evaluation. To do so, building description assistants are developed; so far using IFC import through a BIM tool (eveBIM-ELODIE) as well as predefined macro-elements library or Pareto analysis description. Other contributors (such as water and energy consumption,…) are also offering various description ways with different detail grades.
One needs to know the building geometry, material characteristics, heating and cooling equipment characteristics and consumptions, water consumption, waste generation and transport issues. All these different aspects are not mandatory depending on the goal of the study. The user-adjustable database allows to use the tool for any specific context.
A first results overview is displayed in the tool considering the selected scale (neighborhood, building, contributors, building parts). The detailed results can be exported in “xls” table, giving a detailed contributors-by-contributors analysis.
Thanks to the online interface, it works on all different systems allowing Silverlight plugin (excepted problems due to particular OS or firewall configuration).

A friendly user interface allows a global assessment of the building, taking into account all contributors (materials, energy, water consumption, construction, transport). Its flexibility offers a great range of applicability considering the needs and knowledge of the users. The well-detailed perimeter and completeness of the description make this tool suitable for different stakeholders by focusing on their field of interest. The tool can be used in HQE and BREEAM certification schemes.
This completeness and high level detail make this tool quite time-consuming. Different solutions are already implemented to improve this point and many others are coming. Even if the library is mainly oriented towards this context, it would not be exclusive.
