Calculates whole-building hourly energy performance and indoor climate for a year. It is an EPBD calculation tool that can be used for checking compliance to the Norwegian building regulations (TEK), the Norwegian passive house standards (NS 3700, prNS 3701), and for energy labelling. The solution algorithm is based upon the hourly method in ISO 13790 and ISO 13791. The calculation method complies with the requirements for dynamic thermal models specified in the Norwegian energy performance calculation standard (NS 3031). Screen Shots

The program is actually a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with a macro. All input data is entered/shown in one screen. Each input field has a pop-up comment that explains the parameter and suggests values. The program has 3 integrated databases (typical windows/doors, typical constructions, and energy systems). The user may add their own commonly-used constructions/systems to these databases.

- Two calculations are performed (local climate, and standardized Oslo-climate). Results from these two are summarized in 3 output worksheets: (i) An input & result summary page for printing out, (ii) detailed energy performance tables, in accordance with NS 3031, and (iii) a visualization of solar shadows and blinds operation on facades.

All input fields are shown in one screen, which gives the user a good overview, and makes it quick to use. The popup comments help to make the user interface more self-explanatory, and more accessible for users with less expertise. Despite this outward simplicity, the solution code is as advanced, and has almost as many parameters, as other software with more complex user interfaces. It has accurate algorithms for heat transfer, solar & long-wave radiation with shading with diffuse ray tracing, ground heat loss, etc., and a validated dynamic thermal model using hourly weather data. Can import EPW weather data for any global location. Short calculation time (a few seconds). It calculates hourly indoor temperatures (with optional window airing) and daylight factors, and suggests improvements to the building design, such as window area or shading, to mitigate problems such as summer overheating. Adaptive thermal comfort and conventional PMV/PPD models are both accounted for.
Presently only a single thermal zone is simulated. IFC import is not yet implemented, but is planned. Presently there is little freely available EPW weather data for sites in Norway. Not recommended for accurate sizing of complex HVAC plant. Makes use of default values in NS 3031 that cannot be changed by in the user interface (e.g. standard internal gains depending on building category, but which can be changed by directly editing the input data files, though this purposely not documented in the user guide).
