Flownex is a systems and subsystems simulation tool used to design and optimize closed and open loop flow and heat transfer systems with any number of branching flows and inlets and outlets. Such systems include ventilation systems, water, and gas distribution systems, boiler designs, and complete power generation cycles.

The ability to simulate systems with any combination of liquid, gas, two-phase, slurry, and mixture flows in steady-state and dynamic cases makes Flownex the most powerful simulation tool of its kind. Flownex contains a large but extendable library of components such as pumps, turbines, valves, compressors, and heat-exchangers that enable users to quickly set up system flow solutions. These systems can be analyzed and optimized in steady-state and dynamic modes with powerful, built-in optimizers and analysis tools. Validation/Testing

Flownex is developed in an ISO 9001 and ASME NQA1 accredited quality system. Flownex is extensively validated and verified and includes test plans and procedures, code reviews, user testing, automated testing, and regression testing. More than 1000 networks are tested between each release to ensure that the results are at least as accurate as the previous version.

Expertise Required

The software is aimed at mechanical, industrial, process, chemical and civil engineers. Flownex enables engineers to apply fundamental thermodynamic principles to industry applications without needing to consult theory manuals or conservation equations. It enables the engineer to apply his or her knowledge and time to solving industry problems thoroughly without identifying which fundamental theory will help solve the problem.

Audience

Flownex is aimed at engineers doing new design work from concept to detail. It is used to evaluate retrofits and refurbishments, as well as root cause analysis for design problems.

Input

Input is typically the component geometries and performance characteristics of valves, pumps, etc. Flownex includes libraries of pipe schedules and standards, libraries of fluids, materials, and manufacturer characteristics. Users can also add their own. Input is done in a graphical user interface.

Output

Output is in the form of user-definable reports in Excel as well as user-definable text file output. The user interface also allows output in the form of graphs, charts, and user-definable animations, including dials and gauges to illustrate output interactively.

Computer Platform

Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 are supported.

Programming Language

No programming is required, but user coding in C++, VB, and C# is possible,

Strengths

Flownex can perform steady-state and dynamic analysis with any combination of liquids, gases, mixtures, two-phase simulations, slurry flows, and heat transfer. Its modern user interface is easy to use and it has several powerful analysis and optimization tools, including parametric study capabilities, Monte Carlo analysis, gradient-based optimization, and evolutionary algorithm based optimization.

Weaknesses

Flownex does not do chemical reactions, but does combustion only.
