Cymap Mechanical
Cymap uses the CIBSE quasi-dynamic analysis method to calculate building energy loads. CIBSE uses the admittance procedure and allows heating and cooling systems to be sized with a CAD model. It includes gas pipe sizing and hot and cold water system design (including HW returns that use CIBSE or BSEN 6700). The integrated QuickPlan CAD module, a materials properties calculator, shadows this program and the psychrometrics program. It has UK SAP and iSBEM and Cyprus iSBEM-CY capabilities. Screen Shots
Keywords
Load calculation, Pipe sizing & Radiator selection, Duct sizing, Hot and cold water design, SAP, iSBEM, EPCs, Psychrometrics.
Validation/Testing
iSBEM output is validated by BECSAS; SAP output is validated by the BRE. These are in use and have been developed for more than 25 years.
Expertise Required
Computer expertise is not required; building services engineering background is helpful and basic knowledge of CAD is useful. The tool includes PDF and CHM manuals for all programs, along with training tutorials and example projects for CIBSE. It uses ASHRAE and DIN calculation standards and includes iSBEM and SAP projects. Context-sensitive help is available from most dialogs.
Users
Thousands internationally, most of whom are in the United Kingdom.
Audience
Building services engineering designers, consultants, and contractors wanting to calculate and size systems graphically. Colleges and universities can obtain student licenses and assistance on integrating projects into their curricula.
Input
Building services engineering designers, consultants, and contractors wanting to calculate and size systems graphically. Colleges and universities can obtain student licenses and assistance on integrating projects into their curricula.
Output
Crystal reports, gbXML, DXF, CSV, HTML, and NCT MS Access DB for iSBEM export facility and links to TAS software.
Computer Platform
PC, XP, Vista, Windows 7
Programming Language
C++, Visual Basic, VB.NET
Strengths
Quick intuitive multilevel 2D setup, user-editable databases, global change capabilities, and automatic routing and connecting of piped and ducted systems.
Weaknesses
Does not perform dynamic simulation modeling directly. Requires software dongle lock.
