EPB-software
Free application that supports the (Flemish) Energy Performance Legislation for Buildings. EPB=software is based on a large number of building and installation characteristics and calculates the U-values, the average insulation level and the E-level (Primary energy consumption) of newly built or renovated residential and non-residential buildings and controls compliance with energy-efficiency and indoor climate requirements. It also checks the compliance with the minimum ventilation requirements for all types of buildings.
EPB-software Vlaanderen 1.0 has been public since March 2006. A French test version was made for the Brussels region and will be made for the Wallon region. Screen Shots

Building characteristics: Walls and windows, Thermal mass, Ventilation and Heating zones, Shading, Adjacent non heated spaces.
Installation: Heating (incl. heatpump and external heat supply), Cooling, Humidification, Hot tap water, Lighting, Ventilation system (energy), Auxiliary energy and Thermal and photovoltaic solar energy
Ventilation system (IAQ): Room characteristics, Supply openings or supply rate and Exhaust openings or exhaust rate
All building components need to be defined in a library (characteristics and product-ID). Besides detailed input, a large number of default values are incorporated.
Output
What: E-level, Primary energy consumption, K-level (general insulation level), U-values (component insulation level), Room Ventilation (IAQ), Overheating (only for residential buildings).
Form: GUI, pdf, Energy performance certificate (generated by Flemish energy performance database)

Strengths
Quite complete energy calculation for newly built or renovated residential and non-residential buildings, a large number of detailed calculations, the application has been tested intensively and by many users, strict conformity with legislation, EPB-software is available free.
Weaknesses
The application can be improved with graphical representations. Output module to be further developed.
