HAMLab
HAMlab (Heat, Air and Moisture simulation Laboratory) is a collection of tools and functions in the MatLab/Simulink/FemLab environment that includes:
- HAMBASE: HAM transport in multizone building models
- HAMSYS: building systems models
- HAMDET: detailed (up to 3D) building physics models
- HAMOP: optimal operation
HAMLab is a research tool which is regularly updated (with new release numbers). Screen Shots
Keywords
Heat air and moisture, simulation laboratory, hygrothermal model, PDE model, ODE model, building and systems simulation, MatLab, SimuLink, Comsol, optimization
Validation/Testing
HAMBASE: BESTEST compatible. Models and results are included. Furthermore, the HAM models are validated with hygrothermal measurements. HAMSYS: measurements, See pdf files on webpage; HAMDET: measurements from literature; HAMOP: N.A.
Expertise Required
Basic MatLab/SimuLink understanding. Some building physics and building systems background for input and output evaluation of the model.
Users
Over 300 people have downloaded part of the simulation laboratory models from the Mathworks website. Over 100 students have used it.
Audience
mechanical, energy, architectural & building physics engineers
Input
Building geometry, building constructions, materials, internal loads and schedules, heating and cooling capacities, building systems, user specified PDEs, user specified ODEs, and user specified controllers.
Output
Overall and detailed geometry based (up to 3D) building and systems HAM quantities like: temperature, relative humidity, heat flow, and air velocity.
Computer Platform
Matlab compatible
Programming Language
MatLab/SimuLink/FemLab
Strengths
- Rapid simulation of temperature, Rh, Heating/Cooling power, (de-)humidification of a multizone building
- Integrated models for:
- systems with fast response (order ~seconds) simulation
- 3D heat & moisture transport in constructions
- 2D Airflow
- Users can integrate any new ODE and PDE based models
Weaknesses
Matlab, SimuLink & FemLab needed. Some Matlab expertise needed
