ISE

ISE logo.

Simulates the indoor temperature of 1 zone of a building. ISE (Indoor temperature Simulink Engineering tool) is a simplified model (compared with WISE) and has a user friendly graphical user interface in SimuLink, providing quick results.

ISE can be used in SimuLink (V5.0 or higher) for:

  • quick evaluation of the indoor temperature performance
  • quick estimation of heating, cooling amounts and capacities
  • building model for the design and evaluation of systems and controllers
The aim of this model is to have a physics based building zone model in SimuLink to be used for simulating the systems and controllers. Screen Shots

Keywords

thermal model, building zone simulation, MatLab/SimuLink

Validation/Testing

BESTEST (base cases) for heating capacity: error within 10%, cooling capacity: overestimation of 30%. Note that the aim of this model is not to predict as accurate as possible, but to get an estimation within a very short time.

Expertise Required

Basic SimuLink understanding. Some building physics background for input and output evaluation of the model.

Users

Over 100 students have used it.

Audience

mechanical, energy, architectural & building physics engineers

Input

Building zone volume, building constructions, heating and cooling capacities.

Output

For one zone, temperature & heating/cooling power.

Computer Platform

Matlab/SimuLink (V5.0) compatible

Programming Language

MatLab/SimuLink

Strengths

Very rapid simulation of temperature and heating/cooling power for one zone in a building. The aim of this model is to have a physics based building zone model in SimuLink to be used for simulating the systems and controllers.

Weaknesses

Matlab/SimuLink needed. If more accurate results are needed another model (WISE) is needed.
