PVSYST

PVSYST logo.

Software for the study, sizing, simulation and data analysis of complete PV systems. It is suitable for grid-connected, stand-alone and DC-grid (public transport) systems, and offers an extensive meteorological and PV-components database. It includes a CAO tool for detailed shading analysis. PVSYST offers an ergonomic approach, with greenline guide, and several project levels. Screen Shots

Keywords

PV system sizing, PV system simulation, grid-connected PV systems, stand-alone PV systems, shading, solar tools

Validation/Testing

Performed for 7 installations in Switzerland. Detailed results are in the Help.

Expertise Required

Basic knowledge about solar energy and photovoltaics. Some basic concepts are developed in the contextual help system.

Users

More than 400 users in 40 countries, about half in universities and schools.

Audience

Oriented towards architects, engineers and researchers. Holds very helpful tools for education.

Input

Several levels, starting from very few user's definitions (with usual default values for standard systems) to sophisticated specific parameters (horizon, near shadings, loss factors, device specificities). "xpert system for automatic sizing and system design. Easy import of meteo files (Meteonorm, US TMY2, user defined).

Output

Complete report describing the system parameters and main results. Many additional graphs and tables (on over 60 simulation variables). Export of data to other software. Economic evaluation.

Computer Platform

PC Windows (95/98/NT/2000/XP). 8 MB RAM, 15MB on hard disk.

Programming Language

Delphi

Strengths

Ease of use (progressive). Very refined hourly simulation. Large component and meteo database, easily extendable. Many didactic tools (solar geometry, meteo optimisations, component behaviors). Near shading calcs in 3D.

Weaknesses

English language only. Uses any usual units except US units (inches and F).
