HAP System Design Load uses a system-based approach to HVAC load estimating. This approach tailors sizing procedures and results to the specific type of system being considered. A wide variety of equipment types can be analyzed, including central station air handlers, packaged rooftop units, split systems, fan coils, water source heat pumps and PTACs. System types include CAV, VAV and multiple-zone systems. Sizing data can also be generated for central chilled water, hot water and steam plants. Calculation rigor and integrity are provided by the ASHRAE Transfer Function Method for calculating building heat flow. An extensive list of easy to read reports and graphs document both the basic data needed for equipment sizing and selection, and detailed data needed to investigate building heat flow and system performance. Output

design reports provide system sizing information and check figures sufficient to select equipment. Detailed design reports provide information on component loads, load profiles, system performance, psychrometrics and building temperatures. All reports can be exported for use in word processors and spreadsheets.

HAP has limitations for use by research scientists. Because it is designed for the practicing engineer, program features are tailored for this audience. Features such as access to the source code, often necessary in research situations, are not offered.
