TRACE Load 700
Use TRACE Load 700 software - the building and load design modules of TRACE 700, Trane Air Conditioning Economics - to evaluate the effect of building orientation, size, shape, and mass based on hourly weather data and the resulting heat-transfer characteristics of air and moisture.
To assure calculation integrity, the program uses algorithms recommended by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Choose from eight different ASHRAE cooling and heating methodologies, including the Exact Transfer Function. The program encourages "what if" analyses, allowing the user to enter construction details in any order and then easily change the resulting building model as the design progresses. Multiple project views and "drag-and-drop" assignment of coil loads simplify the modeling process and help you identify optimal zoning.
Templates provide a fast, easy way to analyze the effects of changes in building loads such as airflows, thermostat settings, occupancy, and construction. An extensive library of construction materials, schedules, shading types, load-generating sources, and weather profiles (nearly 500 locations) simplify data entry and allow greater modeling accuracy. Keywords
Heating and cooling load calculation, air distribution simulation, HVAC equipment sizing, commercial buildings
Validation/Testing
The software is tested according to ASHRAE Standard 140. Results have been posted on the program website.
Expertise Required
General knowledge of HVAC engineering principles, building geometry, and the Microsoft Windows operating system
Users
Approximately 2,100 worldwide, including single and site/LAN licenses
Audience
Engineers, architects, and contractors who design and analyze commercial HVAC systems/equipment for new and existing buildings.
Input
Building design parameters and air distribution characteristics.
Output
Print or export any of 40 monthly/yearly summary reports and hourly analyses, including system "checksums," psychrometric state points, peak cooling/heating loads, and building envelope loads.
Computer Platform
Personal computer with a 486/33 or higher processor, Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/NT operating system, 32 megabytes (MB) of RAM, 25 MB of free hard disk space, Super VGA display, CD-ROM drive, and a Microsoft-compatible pointing device.
Programming Language
Visual C++
Strengths
Uses techniques recommended by or consistent with ASHRAE recommendations, and models more than 25 types of air distribution systems. Flexible data entry, multiple views and "drag-and-drop" load assignments simplify the modeling process. Customizable libraries and templates streamline data entry and enable greater modeling accuracy. Experienced HVAC engineers and support specialists provide free technical support.
Weaknesses
Requires TRACE 700 to perform energy and cost analyses. Formal training is recommended for new users; visit the Web site for training options.
