DD4M Air Duct Design
Uses ASHRAE equal friction, constant velocity and / or static regain procedures to design air ducts for air conditioning, heating, ventilation and materials handling. Allows 1000 duct sections and paths in any configuration. Handles rectangular, oval or round ducts in the same system. Recommends duct sizes, allows override if desired. Pop-up screens for automated inputs of 100+ ASHRAE fittings. Modern screens with windows, prompted inputs, pop-up calculator, defaults, error checking, "help" messages at every input field.

Expertise Required
Familiarity with ASHRAE duct design methods; HVAC installation experience. Computer experience not necessary.
Users
Over 500.
Audience
HVAC engineers and commercial duct contractors.
Input
Air volumes needed for each space, duct lengths, fitting types, temperature, altitude.
Output
Size recommendations and pressure drops in each duct and total for each branch showing total pressure required at blower.
Computer Platform
PC-compatible, 286 or higher, running any flavor of Windows and DOS.
Programming Language
Fully compiled with portions in assembler language.
Strengths
Uses ASHRAE methods. Allows equal friction, constant velocity and static regain methods; results always include static regain. Does air intake or distribution systems. Intuitive inputs, automatic fitting loss calculations from onboard database. Free technical assistance.
Weaknesses
This is a DOS program, which installs and runs itself through any version of Windows, displaying its own icon.
