TAPS
Allows users to size hot and cold water services by specifying the properties of pipe work branches connected to one another via nodes. As an option, you can also specify a secondary return pipe work system in the same manner, and TAPS will size the pipe work and the pump required to provide the required flow around the return circuit. Different types of cold-water supply can be specified, such as gravity feed or pressurised. The user can also specify items such as different pipe materials, lagging properties and surface emissivity. Both the outflow circuit and the secondary return circuit are balanced by resizing the non-index runs. Velocity limits can be defined for the system, and if required, the dimensions of certain pipes in the system can be fixed.

Users
Many in UK and Europe.
Audience
Mechanical building services engineers.
Input
System design parameters, user outlets defined and pipe ranges used in the run; and network information, including pipes, fitting codes and outlets.
Output
Single-page printouts of input data or results. Output file with selected input data and results. Results for each section of pipe work: sizes on the outflow network, and their associated flow rates, velocities, k-factors, pressure-losses and heat emissions. Results for the complete system: the calculated pump-size (if a pumped supply is specified), the branch sizes for the secondary return network, and their associated flow rates etc. (where applicable), and the pump specification, and an optional list of parts.
Computer Platform
PC running Windows 95, 98 or NT (3.51 or higher). 100 MB RAM. 100 MB disk space. CD-ROM drive.
Programming Language
Visual Basic, Fortran 77
Strengths
Detailed control over sizing of pipes. Can be used for checking existing pipe networks, even when the sizes are non-standard.
Weaknesses
Outlet and fitting details are not entered separately from the pipes but are entered with the pipe data as special codes.
